About this resource

Four original quiz versions A–D in one pack. Aryl-halide formation and reactivity, ring-halogenation conditions, the resistance of aryl carbon–halogen bonds to hydrolysis, and comparisons with alkyl or benzylic halides.

Selected tasks across the four versions include: Choosing the reaction site; Testing a proposed explanation; Assessing chloride-release data; Comparing ring-halogenation schemes.

Each quiz is 20 marks with seven questions: four 1-mark multiple-choice questions and three structured questions worth 4, 6 and 6 marks. Suggested starting time: 25 minutes per quiz. The pack includes four student quizzes, four matching explained answer keys with marking points and MCQ distractor explanations, and one teacher guide. All nine documents are supplied as editable Word files and print-ready PDFs: 18 files, with 28 pages across the nine PDFs.

Primary syllabus reference: Cambridge International AS & A Level Chemistry 9701, 2028–2030. The sampled written subject content was also checked against the 2025–2027 syllabus and covers shared content. Use the official syllabus for the learner’s examination year to check complete content and assessment requirements; later wording and practical-detail updates mean these editions should not be treated as identical.

Use the versions for classroom diagnosis, retrieval practice, parallel classes or follow-up after teaching. The teacher guide provides use notes, a question-focus/learning-objective map and a results record. Versions share a mark structure but have not been student-trialled or statistically equated; adjust timing for the class and compare reasoning as well as scores. Numerical datasets are authored teaching examples unless a source is named; figures are schematic.

A Level multiple-choice items are classroom revision tools; they do not imply that A Level-only topics appear on AS Paper 1.

This narrow topic revisits its specified aryl-halide outcomes through varied applications. Detailed aromatic-substitution mechanisms are principally assessed in Topic 30; alkyl-halide comparisons draw on prerequisite AS chemistry.

Original independent Science Shop teaching material, not produced, approved or endorsed by Cambridge International Education. Coverage is sampled rather than exhaustive. These short quizzes are not complete official examination papers and do not provide official grade boundaries. Digital ZIP download; no physical item.
